Children can be referred to The Little Den by their school SENCO or directly by parents in consultation with the school. As an approved supplier for Hampshire County Council, we work closely with schools and the local authority to ensure each referral meets the child’s needs. Once a referral is submitted, we review it with the SENCO or parent, arrange an initial meeting to discuss the child’s goals and timetable, and confirm sessions once funding and consent are in place.

Referrals are usually processed within 4–6 weeks, depending on school and council approvals, so children can start as soon as funding and consent are confirmed.

Our provision is designed for children aged 5–8 who may be experiencing emotional or behavioural needs, poor attachment or early trauma, social communication difficulties, low self-esteem or anxiety, or who are at risk of exclusion or non-attendance. We work with children with or without EHCPs, making our approach ideal for early intervention before challenges escalate.

The Little Den is a small-group, nurture-based provision designed to support children who may be struggling socially, emotionally, or behaviourally in mainstream school. Unlike a typical classroom, we offer a calm, predictable environment with a maximum of six children per session, allowing for individual attention and tailored support. Our sessions focus on building emotional regulation, social skills, confidence, and resilience through activities like storytelling, games, creative projects, and outdoor play. We use an attachment- and trauma-informed approach, so children feel safe and understood while developing the skills they need to reintegrate successfully into mainstream education.
